Nintendo has moved to remove any doubt about the compatibility of Amiibo with its upcoming Nintendo Switch console. Despite the Japanese company confirming this back in October last year after announcing the new console doubts still remained among Amiibo fans. Now Nintendo has reiterated the fact that the figurines will work with either controller on its official Twitter page:

Nintendo Switch Absolutely Compatible with Amiibo
Back in October Nintendo representatives told IGN that the Nintendo Switch would “absolutely” support Amiibo for any compatible games. “If a Nintendo Switch game supports amiibo then the Nintendo Switch home gaming system will as well,” were the exact words.
In perspective, Nintendo was unlikely to abandon such an important and popular feature of its gaming systems anyway. But Nintendo console owners and Amiibo fans were also rightly concerned having invested their hard-earned cash on their Amiibo collections.
Miis Optional, Transferrable via Amiibo
In related Amiibo news, Kotaku reports that the use of Miis on the Switch will be optional. The new console will feature a built in Mii maker, enabling users to create new Miis if they wish. Answering a set of questions sent to them by Kotaku, Nintendo responded with the following statement:
” Mii characters can be used to represent a user profile, but are not required. Users also have the option to choose a profile picture from an included library of Nintendo character images. Mii characters can still be used in games if developers choose to include them.”
The company also confirmed that players will be able to transfer their Mii characters from the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS systems using an Amiibo figure. Hopefully the news above will satisfy the legions of Amiibo fans out there.
The Nintendo Switch is due to be released in the UK on March 3rd 2017 and will cost £279.99 on the official UK Nintendo Store.
